On the final day of the sheSTEM Summer Camp the girls finished up their website/games, and then presented their final products to parents as well as the entire group! Everyone did a fantastic job, and we couldn't be more proud of these young female coders.
Today the girls played intense ping pong matches which were accompanied by computer science trivia! The group then split once again to work with making games or websites. A surprise came during the camp when one of our extraordinary GBB Mom's bought everyone pizza! Unfortunately tomorrow is the final day of the first ever sheSTEM Summer Camp, but we are very excited to see the progress the that the girls have made!
Today the girls started off by watching a documentary related to girls in computer science, created by the she++ nonprofit team. The video sparked their interest in continuing to take computer science in high school and college, while empowering them to change the world with STEM. After this video, the girls had a "Tech Brainstorm," where they identified real world problems that they face, or society faces, and figured out how technology can be used to solve these problems. Problems addressed ranged from global warming, poverty, world hunger, to losing hairbands and socks. They discussed how to cure cancer using technology, and how to end world hunger using drones. The girls then divided up into their groups, those who wanted to create websites using HTML and CSS and those who wanted to create games using Python. They are working towards finishing their projects to present to the group on Friday.
On the second day of the sheSTEM Summer Camp, students participated in competitive games of Kahoot and Quizlet Live. They also showcased their HTML skills by changing the code of actual websites! Students then had the option to either begin learning how to create interactive games, or continue expanding their knowledge of HTML.
